Coke Studio: the performances that changed Pakistani music

Patari · 2026-07-18

When Coke Studio launched in 2008, it did something quietly radical: it put a qawwal next to a rock band, a folk singer next to a synth, and let them find each other live. It became Pakistan's greatest musical export.

The moments that defined it

Meesha Shafi and Arif Lohar turned a folk jugni into a phenomenon with Alif Allah Chambay Di Booti. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Momina Mustehsan reintroduced Nusrat's Afreen Afreen to a new generation. And Abida Parveen, with Naseebo Lal, delivered one of the show's most transcendent hours in Tu Jhoom.

The new generation

Ali Sethi and Shae Gill gave the platform its biggest global hit with 'Pasoori', and Young Stunners brought Urdu rap to the stage with Phir Milenge. From Atif Aslam to Quratulain Balouch, nearly every major voice has passed through.
